Benton is a native of Charlottesville, and his sole career has been in real estate since graduating from Hampden-Sydney College in 1977. After working for Alcova Realty, HasBrouck & Graham Real Estate, and Montague, Miller & Co. Realty, Downer & Associates was formed in 1996. As principal broker, Benton brings a unique approach to client services. He is married, has three children, is very active in his church and the Charlottesville community, serves as a board and committee member for the Virginia Association of Realtors, and, in 2005, served as president of the Charlottesville Association of Realtors.

John specializes in Commercial Leasing and Sales, land sales, and development for Downer & Associates.
John started his career with Newmark Knight Frank, the third largest brokerage firm, where he specialized in strategic planning, acquisition, disposition, and lease restructuring for law firms and corporate clients. After leaving Newmark Knight Frank, he moved to Greensboro to assist in the development of Revolution Mill Studios, a 650,000 square foot textile mill being redeveloped with the assistance of Historic Tax Credits. While at Revolution Mill Studios, he also handled the property management and leasing for the property.
John is a highly motivated, detail-oriented agent who is dedicated to representing his clients' best interest through his self-initiatives and strong work ethic. The firm resolve and clear focus he acquired through years of advanced athletic training and competition offer his clients a unique combination of leadership skills, integrity, discipline, follow-through, and goal achievement.
While at Hampden-Sydney College, John was captain of the lacrosse team, as well as a Two Time All-American. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and graduated in 2006.

A native of Charlottesville, Kelly earned her BBA from Mary Baldwin College in 1990. A special emphasis on marketing has been employed throughout her career. Kelly became a Realtor in 2004, and is an active member of CAAR, the local realtor association, and she just received her e-Pro designation. Previous professional experience includes seven years as a Financial Investment Advisor with A. G. Edwards & Sons. Kelly is an Advisory Board of Visitors member at Mary Baldwin College.

Mason is a native of Richmond, Virginia, a 1985 graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in Advertising and Marketing and a minor in Graphic Design. She has been a licensed realtor since 2000, and has been with Downer & Associates since 2003. She just received her CCIM designation.
Carolyn Betts, CCIM - Agent

Carolyn has been investing in and renovating properties since moving here from Atlanta in 1987. She received her B.S. in Nursing from Emory University and is known for her involvement with animals, most notably overseeing the design and building of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. After completing this large community project, she chose to become a Realtor specializing in commercial properties. Carolyn sells and leases properties and development land to and for her clients while continuing her involvement in local non-profits. She just received her CCIM designation.

Amoret Bruguiere has lived in Charlottesville since she was a year old. She was educated in the City school system, and graduated from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. Prior to her employment at Downer & Associates, she has been a restaurant manager, office manager for a wine merchant, shipping department supervisor, certified exercise instructor, and Mom. She has been with Downer & Associates since 1999 and has managed the entire portfolio that includes retail, office and industrial buildings for the last seven years.
Lisa Zangla, Office Manager

Lisa has over 28 years of administrative and managerial experience, and has served as the office manager and personal assistant to Benton Downer for the last 6 years. She handles all day-to-day activities of the office as well as accounting. Lisa has been the captain and organizer of the Downer & Associates team for the annual United Way Day of Caring since 2004, and volunteers weekly with her dog, Bella, in the Health Center at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge.
